In eastern Congo, many families are still trying to rebuild their lives after years of violence, displacement, and hardship.
In Nyiragongo, women are among the most affected. Many of them now take care of their families alone.
For these women, starting a small business is not only about earning money. It is also about feeding their children, gaining confidence, and rebuilding their dignity.
The Mugoli Program Nyiragongo helps women restart small income activities. The program is supported by the ECI and implemented by Chasumba Safety SARL.
The model is simple: women sell corn flour on credit.
This gives them a real chance to start again, even when they do not have enough money to buy stock.
A Simple Model for Women’s Recovery
The model is practical. Women receive a small stock of corn flour on credit. Then, they sell it in their communities. After that, they repay the stock little by little.
As a result, they can start earning income without needing large capital.
This matters because many women are ready to work. However, they lack the first resources needed to begin.
A small stock of corn flour can help a woman restart quickly. It can help her feed her children. It can also help her regain confidence and build financial stability step by step.
Corn flour is also a basic household product. Families use it every day. Therefore, it gives women a realistic business opportunity.
Supporting 20 Pilot Mugoli Women
The program is now entering a new phase.
It will support 20 pilot “Mugoli” women. These women will become supply points for other small resellers in their communities.
This means the impact can grow.
One woman can help other women access stock, start selling, and earn income for their own families.
In addition, this model supports local trade. It does not only provide short-term help. Instead, it helps women become active members of their local economy.
Building Long-Term Independence
The Mugoli Program goes beyond corn flour sales.
Women also receive training in business management, group savings, and rotating microcredit.
These skills are important. Income alone is not enough. Women also need to know how to manage money, save, reinvest, and plan for the future.
Through community savings groups, also known as VSLAs, women can support each other. They can also access small financial opportunities.
Over time, this can reduce vulnerability and help build stronger communities.

Restoring Dignity and Hope
The Mugoli Program is not only about business.
It is about confidence, dignity, and hope.
For a woman who has lost her income, the chance to sell again can change her future. It gives her more control over her life. It also helps her provide for her children and rebuild her household.
In a place where needs remain high, every contribution matters.
- $50 can help a woman restart her small business.
- $100 can support the creation of community savings groups.
